Top
of page This resource has been produced to support environmental awareness training and presentations on environmental issues. It contains a PowerPoint Presentation in three parts, a Script to accompany the presentation, a Picture Gallery of additional slides, Trainers Tips and a Tool Box of accessories to enhance your training course. The structure and trainer support notes have been developed from several years experience during training delivery to audiences in industry using the video 'A Working Environment'. The package is designed to
be flexible and can be tailored to fit your individual business and
training needs. Whether you are in the early
stages of installing an environmental management system or running a
refresher course on aspects of a mature system, the PowerPoint
framework can be used to deliver a presentation in its existing form
or modified to suit your individual requirements. It is doubtful that
you will need all the information in this framework (particularly the
extended section on climate change) but we felt it would be easier for
the user to delete sections rather than reassemble sets of discrete
modules. A basic knowledge of PowerPoint
operation is also assumed but we have deliberately not used the more
sophisticated features, to ensure compatibility between versions and
equipment. You may wish to add your own logo to the slides to increase
a sense of 'ownership' by the audience. Animations and transitions have
been kept to the minimum - add more if this is your preferred style.
However, it is advisable to familiarise yourself with the few that are
built in. The slides are numbered so
that if you move them around, you can return them to their original
positions if required, or ensure that a build up sequence is presented
in the correct order. Part One slides are 1.x - 1.xx. Part Two slide
numbers begin with a 2, Part Three slides begin with a 3. In addition you will also find a Picture Gallery of images on the CD which can be inserted into the PowerPoint framework, or used to replace slides, to make the session more appropriate to your audience. The pictures have been selected from various photographic and video sources, so you may find slight variations in picture quality, but we have endeavoured to provide you with the most appropriate images for the subject. Each slide in the Gallery
also has a description to help you customise the script for your audience Learning points have been embedded in the Script to assist the presenter, however you may prefer to add your own and direct the audience to those that are the most relevant to your organisation and aligned to your training needs. The information and statistics will age over time, so try and keep abreast of the latest information and update the slides wherever possible. Shot in the Dark will issue updates from time to time. You may choose to print out
the script and refer to it throughout delivery. The script is also reproduced in the PowerPoint Speakers Notes view. You can use this to help you rehearse your presentation, or print out the slides with the notes to provide your audience with a detailed record of the session. However, please note that due to the number of pictures included in each section, these are large files and some systems may not have sufficient memory to deliver a printed copy. If you experience difficulties, contact Shot in the Dark to discuss options available. There are at least 50 different learning style theories and as many different views on the subject of training, which we won't explore here. You may
be an experienced trainer or this may be your first time in front of
an audience. If you have not facilitated a training session before or
are new to the subject, you may find it helpful to refer to the Trainers
Tips section of this CD. You will probably have your own preferences and experiences that influence how you will deliver this package and your audiences may vary from the boardroom to the production line - with a whole day's training available for one group and only ten minutes for a tool box talk for another. So the key words are flexible, flexible, flexible. That is not an excuse for merely designing something without structure, on the contrary we have made this package so you can just pick it up and run with it - but it's more likely you will want to tailor it to suit your own needs. Although this package can be used by trainers who are new to environmental issues, it is advisable, as it is when presenting any subject, to do your homework first and prepare for and anticipate the questions you may have to answer during the session. However, it is assumed you have some knowledge of the environmental issues surrounding your activities and this package is not intended as a complete 'train the trainer' guide. For this reason, much of the script framework is in note form and it is up to you to fill in the gaps with your own words. As well as customising the PowerPoint, you can copy and edit the script to suit your personalised presentation. If you need further background on the issues, you could refer to the SitD 'Environmental Management Training Manual'. See our website for details: www.shotinthedark.co.uk There are Guidance Notes
(set in italics in the script) and Exercises built into this
presentation which are based on anticipated audience reactions, for
you to adopt or adapt to suit your audience. The Tool Box contains additional useful resources to help put the finishing touches to your course.
The PowerPoint framework follows the structure of the video 'A Working Environment' (not included on the CD), but it can be used independently, in tandem with one or more parts of the video or as a substitute for all of them. The choice is yours! However, if your awareness training relates to industrial activities and revolves around such subjects as preventing water pollution and waste minimisation we would recommend the screening of part 3 of the video as a minimum requirement. For more in depth training,
(e.g. on waste, energy efficiency, or pollution prevention) one of our
specific videos may be an appropriate alternative. See our website for
details. www.shotinthedark.co.uk To enable you to modify any of the sections, you will need to transfer the files to your hard-drive. In Windows Explorer, right click on the CD drive to open, click on the folder of Green Weaver E files to drag-and-drop onto your desk top (or preferred destination). To access the PowerPoint presentations from the Green Weaver main menu screen, click on the PowerPoint icon. This will give you the option to PLAY or EDIT. If you select play, you will be able to click through all the slides in the preset order. (Right click to display as full screen). If you select EDIT, you then have the option of opening Part 1, 2 or 3 to play or edit. If you are not familiar with modifying PowerPoint programmes or inserting pictures, there are excellent instructions in PowerPoint if you click on the ? on the tool bar. There are a number of ways
to carry out a wide range of operations, but this is a very simple guide: To change text To add a new slide To change the order To delete a slide To copy a slide To insert a picture The content is designed to be adapted to suit your needs, within your business.
